Shopping assistant

Turn on a product-shopping conversation, try it before publishing, and understand chat activity and privacy.

Updated 2026-10-28

The shopping assistant helps shoppers describe what they need, answer a short follow-up question and find products from your store. It can also hand them to your quiz. It is off until you explicitly enable it and save your quiz.

Set up and try your assistant

  1. Open your quiz in the builder and find Shopping assistant in the settings.
  2. Choose Enable shopping assistant. Set an assistant name, greeting and up to four starter suggestions. Leave the name and greeting blank for the shopper-language defaults. Use a store assistant name; the app’s admin persona stays out of shopper conversations.
  3. Click Try shopping assistant to try the conversation before publishing. The preview does not add shopper analytics or sales.
  4. Save the quiz. Publish it when ready. The assistant follows the quiz’s existing Look settings, including colours and type.

On your storefront

Shoppers can open the assistant from the quiz and continue after their quiz results if they want to explain more. The optional storefront launcher offers another entry point through the theme app embed. A shopper can switch back to the quiz at any time. If the conversation cannot continue, the quiz opens quietly instead.

The assistant selects products from the same store catalog as your quiz. Product cards use your product data, and their cart buttons use the store’s cart. It does not invent products, change prices, create discounts or provide shipping, returns, medical or safety advice. Review your product information and try representative questions before enabling it.

Activity and privacy

  • Analytics shows chats started, products shown, cart additions and attributed sales. The cart-addition metric counts distinct conversations with a client-reported successful cart addition, using the same session-based meaning as the quiz funnel. The server validates the offered product and variant; this report is not independent proof of a cart change. Chat sales use the same cart attribution as quiz sales. An attributed sale is not proof that the assistant caused an additional sale.
  • Shopping conversations are included on every plan and do not use merchant AI credit.
  • Chat messages are processed transiently by OpenRouter and the product matcher to answer and match products. No chat transcript is saved in the app or shown to merchants. Anonymous conversation counters and product receipts support rate limits, analytics and sales attribution. Conversation guards older than 30 days and rate buckets dated before the previous UTC day are removed by the existing retention sweep, even if chat is disabled or the store has no new conversations. Cleanup is scheduled shortly after startup and every six hours while the service is running; outages and cleanup backlogs can delay removal. Each run processes a limited number of batches; later runs continue the backlog. Monthly aggregate limits are not reset by this cleanup and follow the store-data deletion policy.
  • Chat does not ask for email, name or phone. Use the quiz’s existing contact step if you want to collect contact details and email permission. Shoppers should keep personal and sensitive details out of their messages.

Turn the assistant off and save to remove it from the live quiz. Your quiz continues working independently.
